He has spent more than 25 years in bollywood film industry., has received many notable awards for his performances in different movies which include two National Films Award as a producer and two Filmfare awards as an actor. According to a CNN, Salman Khan is one of the world’s biggest stars, he has a significant fan following in India and worldwide. Salman Khan is known in media as one of the most popular and successful actors in bollywood. Salman Khan is also a stage actor and an active humanitarian and runs his own NGO “Being Human”
But did you know? Bollywood actor who has done more than 95 movies throughout his career, was supposed to be a cricketer? Yes, you read it right. Few months ago, Salman Khan who portrayed a wrestler in his movie Sultan, revealed to the media that his father Salim Khan wanted him to be a cricketer. This kind of secret story of Father’s dreams for Salman Khan was revealed by Salman at the launch of Sania Mirza’s Autobiography Ace the odds, last year. Bollywood Superstar said that my father wanted me to see him play cricket for India. “My dad wanted me to be a cricketer. That could have been happened easily but i couldn’t prepare myself to go for match practice early morning. This actor life has been already difficult for me, being a cricketer would have been more difficult”.
The superstar said that he used to play cricket when he was young and their father had hired former cricketer Salim Durani to coach him and his brothers.”Dad hired Salim Durani to be my coach,” More he told an interesting story “First day Durani saw me play, I played really well. Second day, I did even better. 3rd day, he called my father and him that his son is really talented and has a bright future. But when my father came to see me play, I played bad intentionally”.
According to Salman, as a lazy kid as he was, it was tough for to even reach school on time, so waking up early in the morning for cricket was almost impossible. He says “My school used to start at 9;00 AM and I used wake up around 8:30 AM and used to barely manage to reach school on time. I actually wanted to be a director”. And he feels that for his onscreen personality is because of merger of traits of his parents, siblings and close friends. “I won’t be Salman Khan without my family” and “Salman Khan is incomplete without a Sohail, Arbaz,Arpita,Alvira, Salim, Salma. There is no personality to Salman Khan if these people were not a part of his life”.
Salman Khan is a sports freak and was named goodwill ambassador for 2016 Rio Olympic. Sometimes he shares nostalgic and rarest pictures of cricket on his social media accounts. Also he is friend with many Indian cricketers including Indian Ex tem captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Salim Khan, 82, who is a veteran bollywood actor and screenwriter, and is best known for writing script play of super hit bollywood movie Sholay (1975). He has two more sons Arbaz Khan and Sohail Khan who also have been working in Indian cinema along with their brother Salman Khan. Now all his sons earning their names in their career in bollywood, Salim Khan really wanted one of his sons to become a cricketer for Indian National cricket team and to represent India. But rather they choose to be actors, film producers and directors.
Later Salman Khan’s younger brother Sohail Khan also revealed that their father wanted one of his sons to be a cricketer. “Father,, wanted one of his sons to become a professional cricketer”. He used to go with us to Khar gymkhana. Unfortunately, we didn’t play a professional cricket but we have a great love for this sport”. When he was asked if he has any plans to make a film about a cricketer, Sohail answered; “every era has got a living legend. Bradman, Guvaskar, Tendulkar and now Virat Kohli. They all have beautiful stories. I don’t know if I can play any of them, but yes, I would love to direct or produce any of them”.
It was reported in 2016, that after his upcoming movie Tubelight which is going to release soon, his next project will be seen in Atul Agnihotri and Alvira Agnihotri’s production film. As Kabir Khan has become Salman’s favorite director after his success in Ek Tha Tiger, he has recommended Kabir’s name as the director for the same film. It is rumored that new project will be based on 1983 world cup victory by Indian cricket team. This will be not the first Bollywood will make a cricketer biopic. In 2016, Sony Pictures Network produced a sports movie based on the inspiration of life of Indian cricketer an former Test captain Muhammad Azharuddin. Imran Hashmi portrayed the role of Azhar.
If the above rumors are true, we can hope this another sports movie of Salman Khan will also be a super hit like his all other super hit movies. Seeing Salman playing a role of cricketer would be interesting to watch. As for now, his fans are waiting for “Tubelight” which is going to release this Eid.
